Kate Garbutt is a North Yorkshire based singer songwriter who combines melodic finger picking on the guitar with a beautiful, distinctive voice to create what you hear today.
Showing talent from the age of four, Kate played alongside her singer/songwriting father performing around Europe. In her early teens she went on to perform as a solo artist and as part of a duo with the international musician Chris Paulson. The pair would often attract crowds of curious by-passers whilst playing on the streets of York and this experience gave Kate the confidence to branch out on her own.
Performing solo from the age of sixteen, Kate has played up and down the country both in venues and on the street busking, which she has a love of. It was whilst busking in Brighton that she was spotted by an independent film company who felt she was perfect to write the music for the ‘Welcome Aboard Toxic Airlines’ documentary (www.welcomeaboardtoxicairlines.com). She embraced the challenge, writing and co-producing the title track.
Kate now writes her own material and plays with a successful function band in North Yorkshire, whilst continuing to do solo gigs.
Kate wrote the theme song for the documentary film 'Flying Sheilas' (www.flyingsheilas.com) about Australian female pilots released in 2008 by Fact Not Fiction Films (www.factnotfictionfilms.com).
In early 2008, Kate played the part of the co-pilot, Carol Parker, in the teaser 'preview film' for the forthcoming feature film 'Shadows from the Sky' due to be filmed in 2009.
In April 2008, Kate interviewed Hayley Westenra for the documnetary film 'Hayley Westenra on tour in Northern Ireland' due for release in late 2008.
